Penrose Triangle Pattern – Foundation Paper Piecing 3D Patchwork
£11.50
Description
Create a striking three-dimensional patchwork design with the Penrose Triangle pattern from Little Patch Pockets. This clever geometric design uses Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) to create the distinctive optical illusion of an impossible triangle.
The finished Penrose Triangle panel measures approximately 20 x 20 inches, making it ideal for a small wall hanging, cushion or decorative patchwork panel. You can also make additional blocks to create a larger quilt.
The Penrose Triangle Pattern includes full instructions for Foundation Paper Piecing, guidance on assembling the finished panel and foundation papers to copy, trace or print. As the design is made using FPP, the blocks can ultimately be scaled to different sizes, giving you plenty of flexibility for your own projects.
A great choice for quilters who enjoy modern geometric designs, optical illusions and three-dimensional patchwork. Experiment with light, medium and dark fabrics to emphasise the 3D effect and create your own unique Penrose Triangle design.
Pattern features:
- Finished panel approximately 20 x 20 inches
- Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP)
- Striking 3D optical illusion design
- Suitable for a wall hanging or cushion
- Can be made into a larger quilt
- Scalable FPP design
- Foundation papers included
- Suitable for experimenting with colour and fabric placement
Requirements – Finished size approx. 20 x 20 inches
Cubes Choose three basic colours (I used blue, green and purple) and then select a dark, medium and light shade of each of these three colours so you will end up with nine fabrics. You will need a piece 8 x 6 inches of each of these nine fabrics
Background (mottled cream in above image) 0.5m Choose a fabric/colour with a good contrast to the ones you have selected for your cubes
FABRIC CHOICES: Making a patchwork illusion work relies very much on the choice of fabric; I would advise choosing plain or tone-on-tone fabrics which read as plain at a distance – not large or multi-coloured prints, save these for another project.
