Hobbs Heirloom 108″ Washable Wool Wadding 3 Metre Saver is a favourite choice for both hand and machine quilters.
One of the most sought after wadding in the Hobbs Heirloom® range due to its soft and luxurious feel and the way it brings out a quilter’s piecing and stitching.
It needles wonderfully, maintains loft, and has exceptional resilience. A lightweight, breathable wadding that breathes naturally and is comfortable for use in all climates, even hot and humid climates!
Made of the finest superwashed wool in the world – this superwashing process successfully smooths the scales on the wool fibers, making it pleasant to the touch and less likely to shrink.
This product, while lightweight, is also strong and resists bearding.
One of the most popular waddings for use in ‘show quilts’ due to its wonderful effect on a quilter’s piecing and stitching, and because the wool doesn’t have a memory for creases, even after being folded during transit, quilts made with it will hang beautifully with not a crease in sight!
Ideal for use in all climates as the natural wool fibre breathes, allowing excess heat to disperse away from the body. It will certainly keep you warm, but it’s great for use in quilts made for use in hot, hot places like Texas, USA where the wadding is produced!
Pair with medium or dark fabrics – if paired with white or light-coloured fabrics, the natural wool colour could slightly darken the fabrics.
We suggest washing items made with Hobbs Heirloom® Wool Wadding by hand, in cool water, and laying them out flat to dry.
If you prefer machine washing, items made with this wadding may be machine-washed. You should use a gentle cycle and cold/cool water and ensure there’s no heavy agitation or spin during the wash cycle. Be especially cautious with front-loading machines as the intense spin cycle can be very hard on all elements of your quilts.
You may start the drying process of items made with this wadding in a cool/air-fluff dryer for 5-10 minutes, however, we recommend you then lay the item flat to complete the drying process.
***NEVER use high heat or steam with projects made with wool as it is very likely this will cause the wool to be felted, resulting in a dense, stiff wadding that not only won’t drape well. This could cause bearding (bearding: the term used to describe wadding poking through the fabric, generally in the stitch lines).***
This wadding may be stitched up to 4″ apart, and it is machine washable* (once inside a quilt), with shrinkage of 3-5% expected.
Pre-washing is not recommended for this wadding.
