Join Australian designer Megan Manwaring for a creative day of appliqué and quilt design in this inspiring workshop based on her beautiful Shelf Life quilt.
Inspired by Kaffe Fassett’s “Rice Bowls” quilt and the serene still-life compositions of Giorgio Morandi, Megan designed this quilt as a gentle tribute to the quiet ritual of her morning coffee — and now you can bring your own version to life.
How to create and use templates for your quilt
Needle-turn appliqué techniques to stitch your coffee cups with care and precision
Machine-piecing background strips for a clean, modern look
Tips on layout, design, and finishing techniques
By the end of the day, you’ll have made progress on at least one background strip and one coffee cup, and you’ll have all the skills and knowledge needed to complete the quilt top at home.
This workshop is perfect for anyone who enjoys appliqué, loves a modern aesthetic, or simply wants to spend a day stitching something beautiful and meaningful.

Fabric requirements:
Megan is a passionate and innovative quilter known for her vibrant use of bright, contemporary fabrics in both pieced and appliqué quilts. Her favourite techniques include Kawandi Patchwork and Appliqué, incorporating creative methods like fussy cutting, string piecing, and the use of specialty rulers to create unique, eye-catching designs.
Megan’s talent has been recognised with several prestigious awards, including the Best Contemporary Quilt Award (Professional) at the 2017 Sydney Quilt Show, Australia, for her beloved quilt Appliqué Sampler with a Twist.
Her patterns have been featured in respected quilting magazines such as Quilters Companion, Homespun, and Quiltmania.
Before moving to London in 2021, Megan taught extensively across patchwork stores in Sydney, Melbourne, and regional NSW. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the UK, where she now shares her expertise through workshops at Lady Sew and Sew.
Megan’s quilts, including Appliqué Sampler and Daily Dose, were showcased at the 2022 Pour L’Amour du Fil festival in Nantes, France, promoting her published patterns with Quiltmania Editions — a testament to her international acclaim and creative vision.
To help you make the most of your workshop time, please ensure that you are familiar with your sewing machine and arrive with it threaded and ready to go. This will save valuable time at the start of the session and allow you to get stuck into sewing straight away!
If you’re not yet confident with your machine or need a refresher, why not book a one-to-one session with us before your workshop? We’ll help you feel comfortable and confident, so you can focus on learning and enjoying your class.
Please remember to bring a packed lunch with you. A cool bag is recommended if needed.
If you prefer to buy something on the day, there are several convenient options nearby, including Subway, Bakery 79, and Tesco.
We’ll also provide tea and coffee during the session to keep you refreshed throughout the day!

You’ll have time to browse our Warehouse Shop before the class starts, during breaks, and even afterwards — the perfect chance to stock up on fabric, notions, and supplies for your next project.

Free parking is available at the warehouse.
Please park in the designated car park at the bottom of the building — this ensures clear access for disabled visitors and delivery vehicles. We kindly ask that you avoid parking along the length of the warehouse.

Workshop Cancellations by Us:
In exceptional circumstances, we may need to cancel a workshop or event. If this happens, we will:
Offer you an alternative date where possible, securing your place in the class
Provide as much notice as possible, with cancellations made no later than 48 hours before the scheduled workshop
If no alternative date is suitable, we will refund you in full

We are unable to reimburse any additional costs you may have incurred to attend, such as travel, accommodation, or materials purchased independently.
