Create a spectacular light-up Christmas wall hanging in this fun and festive one-day workshop.

The Spruced Up wall hanging features a beautifully pieced Christmas tree, complete with lights to make it glow. Using Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP), you will learn how to create the striking tree design and assemble your patchwork wall hanging.

Helen will demonstrate a simple method of Foundation Paper Piecing, making this an ideal introduction to FPP for anyone who has not tried the technique before. You will learn how to accurately piece the different sections of the design and how to use colour and fabric placement to create the festive Christmas tree. The finished wall hanging measures approximately 14 x 24 inches and makes a wonderful Christmas decoration for your home. The addition of lights gives the finished piece an extra-special festive sparkle.

This is a machine sewing workshop and is suitable for confident beginners upwards. You don’t need previous Foundation Paper Piecing experience.
Each student will receive a full set of printed patterns and instructions, including photographs and diagrams, so you have everything you need to continue working on your project at home if you don’t complete the wall hanging during the workshop.

What to bring

Sewing machine with a standard sewing foot

Please make sure you are familiar with your sewing machine and bring it threaded and ready to sew.

General sewing equipment including:

• Rotary cutter
• Cutting mat
• Quilting ruler
• Fabric scissors
• Pins
• Thread
• Spare needles and bobbins
• Sewing machine foot pedal and accessories
• Sewing machine manual

Please bring your glasses if you need them for close work.

Fabrics and materials

You will need a selection of Christmas and coordinating fabrics for your wall hanging. Green fabrics work particularly well for the Christmas tree, with contrasting fabrics for the background and decorative sections.

The finished design looks particularly effective when fabrics with different colours, patterns and textures are combined to create contrast within the tree.

Battery-operated lights are also required to create the illuminated effect.

You will have the opportunity to purchase fabrics, haberdashery and any additional supplies you need from the Lady Sew and Sew Warehouse Shop.

Sewing Machine Reminder

To help you make the most of your workshop time, please ensure that you are familiar with your sewing machine and arrive with it threaded and ready to go. This will save valuable time at the start of the session and allow you to get stuck into sewing straight away.

Lunch Information

Please remember to bring a packed lunch with you. A cool bag is recommended if needed.

If you prefer to buy something on the day, there are several convenient options nearby.

We will also provide tea and coffee during the session to keep you refreshed throughout the day!

Shopping Opportunity

You will have time to browse our Warehouse Shop before the class starts, during breaks and afterwards – the perfect opportunity to choose fabrics and supplies for your Spruced Up wall hanging or your next quilting project.

Parking

Free parking is available at the warehouse.

Please park in the designated car park at the bottom of the building – this ensures clear access for disabled visitors and delivery vehicles. We kindly ask that you avoid parking along the length of the warehouse.

📅 Cancellation Policy

Workshop Cancellations by Us:
In exceptional circumstances, we may need to cancel a workshop or event. If this happens, we will:

• Offer you an alternative date where possible, securing your place in the class

• Provide as much notice as possible, with cancellations made no later than 48 hours before the scheduled workshop

• If no alternative date is suitable, we will refund you in full

Please note:
We are unable to reimburse any additional costs you may have incurred to attend, such as travel, accommodation, or materials purchased independently.

Cancellations by You:
If you need to cancel your place:

• 14 days’ notice or more before the first session:

  • You may request a refund (minus a 10% admin fee)

  • Or transfer to another available class

• Less than 14 days’ notice:

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a refund or transfer

We appreciate your understanding and encourage early notice wherever possible to allow us to offer your place to another attendee.
