Aurifil Thread

Aurifil Thread was established in 1983 by Angelo Gregotti in Milan, Italy. His vision was to create the best product on the market, a premium thread made of the finest Egyptian cotton.

While the thread was originally marketed for machine embroidery, Angelo’s daughter, Elena, became fascinated with quilting, describing the pieces as “works of art.” She quickly realized the potential of Aurifil for quilting and approached her father about the idea. The rest, as they say, is history!

Fast forward to today, Aurifil thread is now one of the most popular quilting threads in the world.

At their headquarters in Milan, Aurifil thread production includes a 15-step process before being wound onto spools. This results in a smooth, strong, and lustrous thread perfect for quilting. The thread is also mercerized, a process that further strengthens it and gives it its signature sheen.
