2669014 Milward Fusing Mat provides easy visibility when you are creating appliqué designs. Place your paper design below the transparent fusing mat, you can then easily layer and fuse your composition on top of the fusing mat.
This Milward Fusing Mat is really handy for appliqué because of the way it’s designed:
Non-stick surface – The mat is made from heat-resistant silicone and glass fibre, so fusible web or glue won’t stick to your iron or the mat. That means you can press appliqué shapes safely.
See-through design – It’s transparent, so you can place your pattern underneath the mat and build your appliqué directly on top, checking placement as you go.
Reusable pressing surface – You can pre-assemble intricate appliqué motifs on the mat, fuse them together, and then lift the whole design off in one piece to position on your fabric.
Protects your ironing board/iron – It acts as a barrier so no fusible adhesive ends up where you don’t want it.
Even heat distribution – The material helps spread the iron’s heat evenly, making fusing more reliable.
👉 In short: it makes appliqué easier, cleaner, and more accurate.
Max Temperature: 230 degrees
Material: Silicone Coated Fibreglass
Size: 43.2 x 61cm
The fusing mat has an amazing non-stick surface which protects your fusible so that it can be heated repeatedly! You can even use hot glue directly on the mat for other arts and crafts projects.
Any fusing glue can be removed easily by hand; any small pieces of fabric or fluff are quick to remove with a lint roller. Do not wash. Instructions included.
How to use the mat…
Trace your appliqué shapes onto fusible web (like Bondaweb, HeatnBond, or Vliesofix).
Roughly cut them out, fuse to the wrong side of your fabric, then cut out neatly on the lines.
Put your printed placement guide or layout sheet on your ironing surface.
Lay the Milward Fusing Mat on top – it’s see-through, so you can easily follow the design underneath.
Arrange your fabric pieces on the mat, using the pattern lines as a guide.
Overlap edges slightly if they need to join.
Cover with a pressing sheet (optional, but it helps protect your iron).
Press with a hot iron (no steam), just long enough for the fusible to bond the pieces together.
The mat’s non-stick surface ensures the appliqué won’t stick to it.
